According to the data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 15,784,213 of these visitors were foreigners. Additionally, 2,024,865 Turkish citizens residing abroad visited the country, bringing the total number of visitors to 17,809,078.
Increase in foreign visitors in May
In May 2024, the number of foreign visitors to Türkiye increased by 14% compared to the same month in 2023, reaching 5,130,119. Over the January-May period, the number of foreign visitors saw a 12.47% increase compared to the same period last year.
Germany leads in tourist numbers for the January-May period
In May, Russia ranked first among countries sending the most visitors to Türkiye, with an increase of 15.32% and 739,017 visitors. Germany followed with an 18.12% increase, sending 729,505 visitors, while the United Kingdom came in third with a 21.62% increase, totaling 550,592 visitors. Bulgaria and Poland followed these countries.
For the first five months of this year, Germany was the top country sending visitors to Türkiye, with a 16.20% increase and 1,122,930 visitors. Russia was second with 1,078,294 visitors, and Iran was third with a 51.78% increase and 946,437 visitors. Bulgaria and the United Kingdom followed.
